Corpus Christi + Houston

January 19, 2017 Padre Island, Texas, USA

After spending close to three weeks in cities of Texas it was time to get out of the congestion and see the Gulf. We left San Antonio around 2:00 p.m and after gasing up the van and grabbing some groceries, we ended up arriving in Padre Island in the dark. This wasn't a problem but we do prefer seeing the area in the day because you never know what you will wake up to. However, we rolled up to a spot that was primitive, beachfront and beautiful to wake up to.

The majority of the days were spent walking the endless miles of beach and relaxing. Evenings usually revolved around cooking a scrumptious meal and catching the sunset on the pier - Such a wonderful life we have. One of the nights we meet a very nice couple (Farah and Tony) that invited us to join them for freshly caught shrimp and red snapper from a local market. We gladly accepted the offer! After all, meeting new people and exploring new territory is what the trip is all about. That night was spent with great people, amazing food and fun conversation that we will not forget. Thanks again guys. The next morning we packed up and we were back on the road. Our next stop was Houston, which is 4 hours north-east of Padre Island.

As we were driving into Houston we started to check out things to do, places to park and the weather forecast. Unfortunately we quickly found out that we were leaving sunny seventy degree Padre Island for a whooping six degree Houston. No surprise though, it seems like the colder temperatures were following us through our Texas voyage and it was too late to turn around. Nevertheless we weathered the storm and took the bull by the horns. Despite the treacherous temperature drop, gusty winds and rain storm, we managed to get in a scenic eight mile walking tour of the entire city! The city walk was definitely the highest point because on day two or three, (Can't remember) Britney had quite possibly the biggest freak out of the entire trip thus far. A freak out that was brewed by freezing temperatures, van malfunctions, losing her driver's license at the coffee shop and dash of home sickness. At one point she even said the words, "I want to go back home to Colorado". As calm and collected as I could possibly be at this point, I offered to drive her to the airport and fly her back. I told her that I would "carry on my wayward son" (Thanks Kansas) and she could meet up with me when she was back in a wanderlust mindset. However, like the champion that she is, she got herself together and realized that everything was ah-okay.

The remainder of Houston actually turned out just dandy. Our time was spent touring the cool homes on the outskirts of town, spending morning at the extremely luxurious dog park, exposing the campus of Rice University,
eating wonderful meals and working on our fitness. Not to mention, on the last day a gal named Sarah contacted Britney with great news. She had picked up her ID on the ground of the coffee shop and worked right down the street. Thankfully that burden was lifted off of our shoulders and didn't have to worry about it anymore.

It's safe to say that Houston had it's ups and downs, but we definitely left the city with a happy ending!

Next Stop, New Orleans
